Brisbane Trail Ultra-The Course Design
The course is designed by Co Race Directors Shona Stephenson and David Eastman. Their goal is to challenge ultra runners. They have put all their efforts into creating a course that meets the needs and wants of trail runners all over the world. What to trail runners want? Amazing views, single trails, stunning forests, unique fauna, steep ascents and invigorating descents and great event logistics. We have ticked every box. This is an athlete focused event, drawing on Shona’s 10 years of Racing locally and internationally. Shona has raced everywhere from Great Ocean Walk, Surf Coast Century VIC, Ultra Trail Australia NSW x5 Times, Buffalo Stampede VIC, Coastal Classic NSW, Sydney Trail Series, Blackall 100 x4 Times, Northburn 100mile, Tarawera Ultra x3, Ultra Trail Mont Blanc x2 Chamonix France/Switzerland/Italy, Mont Blanc Marathon Chamonix France/Switzerland/Italy, Ultra Trail Mount Fuji x3 Japan, Hakuba International Trails Japan, Ice Trail Tarenese France, Run Larapinta NT, 6 Foot Track NSW, Lantau Vertical 1km Hong Kong, Moonlight Shotover Marathon Queenstown NZ to name just a few. Shona averaged 5 Ultra Trail 100km events in a year for 5 years! That’s a lot of racing. That’s a lot of research for the Brisbane Trail Ultra.
They want kick butt trails and a huge atmospheric finish line. Imagine running into a CBD, crowds cheering you all the way to the finish line. No more Ultra Trail Marathon finishes by yourself with no one to cheer you on. We’ve created a finish line that you will remember and talk about until you race again next year.
Shona has experienced a huge range of conditions, course changes due to Bush Fires, Cyclones, Typhoons, Floods, course markings, check point formats and logistics set ups. She has races supported and unsupported and understands what really make an enjoyable event for the athlete and what makes conditions more enjoyable for support crews.
Our course is going through the final stages of approval. Map apps and PDFs to download will be available soon. Stay tuned for more details.
